Assistant Director for Human Resources and Administration
The Washington State Historical Society is seeking to fill the full-time position of Assistant Director for Human Resources and Administration. This is a Washington Management Service position in the Administration Department at the Washington State Historical Society. The position is located at the Washington State History Museum in downtown Tacoma.
Description
This is a senior level management position, reporting to the Director, with responsibility for Human Resources and Administration. It provides a primary source of advice, consultation, and policy development for human resources, risk management, records management for paper records and procurement.
Essential Functions
- Development, oversight and administration of the agency's human resource management functions to include HRMS Personnel Administration and Organizational Management.
- Regularly work with issues of legal and confidential implications, resulting from directing and administering the agency's human resource programs as related to recruitment and selection, classification, compensation, diversity, corrective and disciplinary action, labor relations, employee relations, ethics, performance management, employee development and training, internal investigations, equal opportunity, affirmative action, reasonable accommodations, employee health and safety and policies and procedures.
Advise the agency director on human resource management and employee issues.
- Counsel managers and oversee agency performance relative to human resource management issues.
- Interpret agency direction and long-range mission from agency documents, legislative charge, and agency policies and procedures.
Lead the development of effective human resource strategies to assist the agency in accomplishing its mission and minimize employment risk.
- Serve as the specialist on the structure, analysis, interpretation, reporting and action planning to Human Resource Management data
Manage the Administration budget by processing purchase requisitions and vouchers and prepare budget requests and budget adjustments.
Integrate state policies and regulations into the policies, procedures and practices of the agency.
- Review contracts, interagency agreements and competitive solicitation documents to provide for agency's best interests to ensure compliance with state regulations prior to review by the Assistant Attorney General.
- In behalf of the director, sign leave slips, timesheets, travel authorizations, and SCAN detail billings, of senior management staff.
Consult with Director and staff on issues relative to ethics, risk management, compliance with RCWs, WACs, and other governance.
- Participates with the Director and management team in the development and implementation of the Society's Strategic plan; develops administrative goals and objectives and performance measurements and reports on performance toward goals.
- Responsible for the operational support of the Board of Trustees and Executive Committee to include sharing the coordination of meetings arrangements and minute taking and maintaining board of trustee manual, rosters, documents, etc.
Qualifications
Knowledge of state of Washington human resource management systems, familiarity with state budgeting and accounting systems, and demonstrated experience as a manager in a leadership role with emphasis on human resources and risk management.
Salary Range: $56,112-73,608

Museum Security Officer
Classification: Security Guard 1
Salary: $10.78/hr to $13.55 w/ shift differential
The Washington State Historical Society is seeking to fill non-permanent,
part-time security officer positions in the Museum Support Services Department
of the Washington State History Museum to work special events and to fill in
during the absences of permanent employees.
Description
The Museum Security Officer supports the Society’s mission by providing
a safe and secure public environment, acting as an informational liaison to
the visiting public and engaging visitors in a friendly and professional manner.
She or he is responsible for ensuring that buildings and grounds are free
of hazards, visitors conduct themselves prudently, monitoring building access
and egress, security of building and grounds, enforcing parking rules and conduct,
issuing parking violations, reporting discrepancies in writing and verbally
and conducting oneself in a professional manner at all times.
Essential functions:
- Responsible for maintaining a daily log of shift duties and occurrences.
- Reporting discrepancies of standard operating procedures.
- Monitoring access and egress to the building and grounds.
- Read, write and speak the English language.
- Communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
- Use effectively; 2-way radio, cellular telephone, computer and other office
equipment.
- Walk or stand for extended periods of time.
- Able to lift 50lbs.
- Obtain 1st aid/CPR & AED certification and effectively demonstrate ability.

- At least one year of previous security or law enforcement experience within
the last 5 years
- Complete a Washington State Patrol Request for Criminal History
