The annual History Day theme is selected by the National History Day office staff.
Students may choose any topic related to local, regional, national, or world history,
as long as his or her research and conclusions clearly adhere to the theme. The
topic’s relationship to the theme is a significant component of project evaluation
at History Day contests.
