Planning your field trip
When scheduling...
- Visit the Education section at WashingtonHistory.org to make a
reservation for your class
- Provide the following information when you submit your reservation
request:
- The type of field trip (self-guided or facilitated)
- Three viable dates for your field trip
- Any special needs that your group has
- Contact information for all teachers on the field trip
Two weeks prior to your visit...
- Make sure all school paperwork is turned in
- Send out student permission slips
- Contact parent chaperones—We require 1 chaperone for every 5 students
- Make sure you have received a confirmation e-mail from us stating
the date and time of your scheduled field trip
One week prior to your visit...
- Watch your e-mail for a lunch schedule and parking directions for your visit
- Pass the schedule on to all teachers and chaperones who will be assisting with the field trip
- Confirm with parent chaperones, and send them the museum field trip guidelines
- Collect permission slips from students
To prepare your students for the field trip...
- Review the pre-visit materials supplied by the History Museum
- Explain appropriate museum behavior (as outlined in the field trip guidelines) to your students
- Complete one or two pre-visit activities to introduce students to the types of things they will see in the museum
