The Longhouse Education & Cultural Center is partnering with the Washington State History Museum for the sixth annual In the Spirit Native Arts Market and Festival in Tacoma, Washington. A juried art exhibition will take place at the Washington State History Museum, in addition to a weekend arts market and festival. The arts market and festival will take place on August 6, 2011. The exhibition will open on June 16 and run through August 28, 2011, at the Washington State History Museum in Tacoma, Washington.

Art show eligibility is in compliance with the Indian Arts and Crafts Act of 1990 (P.L. 101-644). Under the Act, an artist must be a member of a state or federally recognized tribe or be certified as a tribal artisan by a tribe. If you have never worked with the Longhouse you are required to send a copy of your tribal enrollment documentation, listing your enrollment number and/or tribal center phone number. If you have any questions, please contact the Longhouse staff.
Images Artists may submit up to two pieces for consideration, one image per piece. Only JPEG images, not exceeding 1MB or 1024KB each will be accepted. Images submitted must be of actual completed pieces that will be available to the Museum from May 14, 2011 through September 18, 2011 for the exhibit. Once a piece has been juried into the show, no substitutions will be accepted.
Jury Qualified Native artists and museum curators will review all of the art show applications.
Size Limitations
To ensure the safety of the visitors and to follow Museum standards, we must insist on the following: upon delivery to the Museum, all art must be "gallery ready"—meaning all works must have secure hanging hardware and/or stable bases. This includes any custom mounts or specialized hardware, along with detailed installation instructions.
All artwork will be inspected for pest infestation. Pests are damaging to the Museum collection. They can affect wood, grasses, leather, gut, wool, silk, and other organic materials. The Museum has the right to refuse any infested entries.
Applications may be submitted via regular mail, fax, or e-mail by March 18, 2011. Artists will be contacted when the Longhouse receives their application.
Notification of featured artists will be E-mailed to individual artists by April 15, 2011, posted on the Longhouse and Washington State Historical Society Web sites by May 2, 2011. A follow-up notification will be sent to each applicant via E-mail and regular mail.
