"Game Changers and History Makers" is the first women’s history conference in the Pacific Northwest in many years. Academic, oral, and independent historians, preservationists, archivists, museologists, genealogists, community activists, and others will gather November 3-5, 2010, at the historic Davenport Hotel in Spokane. The conference will reveal new scholarship, current trends, and exciting avenues for new research and presentation.

The conference commemorates the centennial of Washington women permanently winning the right to vote in 1910. State senators Karen Fraser of Olympia and Lisa Brown of Spokane will provide remarks. Gail Dubrow, Professor of Architecture, Landscape Architecture, Public Affairs and Planning, and History, University of Minnesota, Minneapolis, Minnesota and Stephanie Coontz, History and Family Studies, The Evergreen State College and Director of Research and Public Education for the Council on Contemporary Families will be featured speakers. Historians Sue Armitage, Professor of History and Women’s Studies, Emerita, Washington State University, Pullman and Karen Blair, Chair, Department of History, Central Washington University, Ellensburg will be honored for their lifelong contributions to the field.

The Women’s History Consortium; Washington State Historical Society, permanent sponsor of the Pacific Northwest History Conference (of which this is the 63rd); Northwest Museum of Arts & Culture, host of a related traveling exhibit, "Women’s Votes, Women’s Voices"; and the Northwest Oral History Association are co-sponsors of this event.

Conference Details

Hotel

The Davenport Hotel and Tower is the primary meeting site. This historic landmark building is intertwined with the women’s history of the Inland Empire and region, making it an appropriate location for the “Game Changers and History Makers” conference. The conference organizers have arranged for conference attendees to stay at the Davenport at the federal reimbursement rate for lodging, a real bargain. These rates will be available until October 6, only. When you make your lodging reservation, indicate you are registering for the Women’s History Conference.

Conference Registration

All attendees, speakers, and exhibitors should register on-line for the conference. You will receive a confirmation of your registration. The conference coordinators reserves the right to make changes to the program as necessary.

Early Bird

One way to save money is to register by October 6. Registrations received after October 27 will be taken at the meeting and treated as onsite registrations.

Oral History Workshop

Attendees should note that pre-registration is necessary for the workshop on Wednesday, November 3, and registration will be on a first paid, first served basis.

Cancellation/Refunds

All cancellations must be sent in writing prior to October 27.

Student Scholarships

Any active, full-time student may send a one-page letter applying for a scholarship, which will cover the cost of meals and registration only. Letters should be mailed no later than September 15.
